Selection Process for new County Trustees – 2025 AGM

2025 Selection process for new Trustees 

To comply with The Scout Association’s Policy, Organisation and Rules 5.3.6.4k (POR)the County’s Trustee Board has set the following open selection process for new Trustees in advance of the June 2025 AGM.

The County’s Trustee Board (the Board) currently includes the following Trustees

  • Appointed members June 2024 ( for a 3 year term): Chair,  Treasurer and 3 Trustees
  • Appointed members June 2024 (for a 1 year term) :  1 Trustee
  • Ex-Officio members:  County Lead Volunteer and  1 x County Youth Lead

2025 AGM vacancies

  • There are three vacancies as one Trustee is standing down and the Trustees propose to recommend increasing the total number of Trustees by two.
  • In keeping with  The Scouts’ POR,  the 3 vacancies will be advertised both internally and externally, so all existing members and members of the local community have the opportunity to nominate themselves for these governance roles.
  • Reach Volunteering and Volunteering Cambs websites will be used to publicise the vacancies to our external (wider) local communities and help increase the skills and experience of the Board. The vacancies are also being advertised on The County’s Public and Internal Facebook pages.
  • Existing members are being emailed so they have the opportunity to nominate themselves.
  • Candidates will either complete the appropriate webform or self-nomination form (below) providing a summary of their relevant experience in governance

 Selection Process

Self-nomination forms/information will be reviewed by the Chair and another Trustee, who will then meet with each candidate individually to discuss their applications

The Trustees will consider the information provided by candidates to inform a collective decision on the names of those to be recommended to the County Scout Council (the County’s AGM body) for appointment as Trustees

These “volunteer” appointments are for a three-year term although Trustees may stand down during that period if they so wish.

Information for those interested in becoming a County Trustee

  • Trustee Board meetings are usually held every two months (January, March etc) plus the Annual General Meeting (held in June)
  • The Board’s meetings take place on a weekday evening and usually last between 1- 2 hours at the County Office in St Ives.  It may on occasions be possible to join the meeting via an online video link.

Self-nominations for these vacancies are welcome from all. Existing membership of scouting is not a pre-requisite. Experience of governance, perhaps through work or within the charity sector, may be be an advantage. Appropriate training and support will be provided.

Eligibility to be a Charity Trustee is essential.
