The County Trustee Board is a team of volunteers who work together, as charity Trustees, to make sure Cambridgeshire Scouts is run safely and legally.
At the heart of their role is a focus on strategy, performance and assurance.
Members of the Trustee Board act collectively as charity trustees of Cambridgeshire County Scout Council and in the best interests of its members.
Alan grew up in Petworth, West Sussex. After briefly attending cubs and a longer foray into Venture Scouting he returned to scouting in the late 1990s as a Venture Scout Leader in Peterborough. Since then, he has been a Group Scout Leader, District Commissioner, District Executive member and Group Chairman. More recent appointments have been as County Executive Finance Committee Chairman and, since 2022, County Chairman. Outside scouting Alan has considerable experience in school governance serving as a Board member or Chairman for a variety of Peterborough schools. He is currently a Member at Hampton Academy Trust.
Alan’s working life started in the RAF in 1975 as an Apprentice Technician. He was commissioned as an Engineering Officer in 1991 and retired from RAF Cranwell as a Officer Commanding Leadership Training Squadron in 2013. From 2014 – 2016 he was Business Manager for the Peterborough Cambridgeshire Clinical Commissioning Group.
Alan is married to Alison with 2 grown up sons and 2 young grandchildren. He enjoys offshore sailing, walking and various activities to stay fit.
Simon grew up in Cambridgeshire and was involved in Scouting as a Cub, Scout, Venture Scout, and Assistant Scout Leader in Cromwell District until moving to London in 2003.
He served as County Scout Network Commissioner for a year in 2002/3, when he was also Chair of Cambridge University Scout and Guide Club. In London, he held roles as District Scout Leader, District Explorer Scout Commissioner, County Advisor for Mountain Activities, and trustee of Greater London South West County Scout Council.
Returning to Cambridgeshire in 2020, Simon joined the Scout Group in his village and became Team Leader for the Cambridgeshire Scouts Watersports Team. Passionate about outdoor activities, he is a senior dinghy sailing instructor, powerboat instructor, mountain leader, and trains and assesses leaders for permits in all three activities.
Outside Scouting, Simon is a solicitor and partner in a Top 50 UK firm specialising in commercial real estate transactions, an expertise he brings to the Trustee Board, and also a member and trustee of his local church.
James is a Chartered Surveyor with a career spanning over two decades, working primarily in Central London where he has held roles with a number of multinational property consultancies.
A keen outdoorsman, James spends much of his free time hiking and mountain biking. He has a particular fondness for Snowdonia, having grown up in North Wales. He now lives in Cambridge with his wife and their nine-year-old son.
James believes strongly in the power of Scouting to equip young people with confidence, character, and practical life skills. His lifelong interest in Scouting and love for the outdoors were sparked by his early adventures as a Cub Scout which he fondly remembers. He brings both his professional acumen and personal passion to his role as a trustee.

Paul brings his skills in safeguarding, strategic planning, and stakeholder engagement to the table. As a senior manager in children’s services, a former scout, and a father of a scout in Ely, Paul is deeply passionate about the positive impact that scouting can have on young people’s lives.
His professional background has equipped him with extensive experience in managing and developing services that support the well-being and growth of children, adolescents, and families.
An explorer, adventurer and TV presenter, Dwayne's been seen in BAFTA nominated Channel 5 series Race to the Pole, on BBC Springwatch, Countryfile, National Geographic and Disney+.
