What is SWAN?

• SWAN 77 (in 2027) is a week long sailing expedition on the Norfolk Broads held every Easter and organised by Peterborough District Scout Council. Some of its members also support Cambridgeshire’s larger water based activities (e.g. Big Splash).

SWAN is your chance to be an active crew member, sailing a yacht around the Norfolk Broads on an exciting week-long adventure.

• No prior sailing experience is needed – we’ve got fantastic people who will help you “learn the ropes”.
• There are pre-expedition training sessions run during the winter so you can know what to expect and what to bring with you.
• There can be early starts and sometimes it can be tiring but the way everyone works together creates friends for life and an amazing experience!

Interested?

• Who can come? Applications are welcomed from Scouts aged 13 and over (as 1 April 2027), Explorers and assisting adults.
• Cost?  £360 which covers food, boat hire and mooring fees.
• How do we get there?  Transport to and from the Broads is organised locally and there may be a small additional cost for this.
• How do I apply? Applications open at the beginning of September each year for a month – those interested need to complete an online application form and pay a deposit.

Individuals who attended SWAN76 should apply through Online Scout Manager.

Others should complete the online application form by 30th September at the latest

Deposit and Payments 

• £100 deposit due once a place is confirmed
• £130 due 31 January 2027
• £130 due 28 Feb 2027

The organisers are using a 2 stage application process to make administering the expedition easier. 

Stage 1: Please complete the simple form found here. We’ll then input this data into Online Scout Manager which is a tool many will be familiar with. This step must be complete by 30 September.

Stage 2: On at least a weekly basis Online Scout Manager will then invite you to make the full application and set up your payment details on GoCardless (this year non-refundable deposits of £100 will not be taken until places are confirmed). This stage must be complete by 7 October. Only individuals who have completed stage 2 and setup payment details on GoCardless will be considered for the expedition. Please note that we are often over-subscribed, places will be confirmed by 9 November.
