County Water Sports Team
Cambridgeshire’s Water Sports team has three main functions:
- Providing training and assessment opportunities for adults in Scouting who wish to obtain water activities adventurous activities permits.
- Providing a pool of permit holders who are willing to help other Groups and Districts run water activities.
- Organising and delivering water activities for the County.
Where training and activities are already being run successfully within Groups or Districts, we aim to work alongside and support what is already being done, rather than replace it, and so an initial area of focus will be on the gaps in the existing provision across the County that can be plugged in order to extend the opportunities on offer to adults and young people.
Membership of the team is open to all adults in Scouting with a passion for water activities who hold an adventurous activities permit in a water activity and are willing to use it for the benefit of Scouting. Training to other adults will be delivered by members of the ASU with appropriate skills and qualifications following the syllabi for relevant National Governing Body awards, and where possible leading to certification, and adventurous activities permit assessments will be undertaken by Approved Assessors. The ASU will therefore provide not only a service to the County but also the opportunity for its members to build their experience, develop their skills and gain further qualifications.
