What’s happening?
- CambsMAT (Cambridgeshire Scouts Mountain Activities Team) has booked indoor accommodation at Dolygaer Scout Activity Centre in the Brecon Beacons for the weekend of 15-17 May 2026.
- The Brecon Beacons National Park is a place of unparalleled natural beauty, featuring rolling hills, picturesque valleys, ancient woodlands, and breathtaking waterfalls. The accommodation sits just below the highest peak in southern Britain, Pen y Fan, standing proudly at 886 meters, and a multitude of other majestic mountains waiting to be explored.
- Hillwalking adventure for all Levels – Whether you’re an experienced hiker or a beginner, the Brecon Beacons offer something for everyone, and you will be guided by our experienced permit holders.
- The Beacons area is also perfect for hillwalking permit training and assessment; Just let us know if you want either when you fill in the application form.

Who can attend?
- This trip is open to all Scouts in School Years 8 & 9, Explorer Scouts and adult members of Cambridgeshire Scouts, with any level of experience in the hills.
- Scouts and Explorers can come without their own Leaders – we will look after them!
Schedule:
- Friday evening – Make your way to the accommodation – Allocate walking groups for the weekend.
- Transport will be arranged for Scouts and Explorer Scouts if required.
- Saturday – full day in the hills, with fantastic 360 degree views. Permit training or assessment (if requested) will cover as much navigation, leadership, and general practical subject matter as is possible.
- Sunday – morning to mid-afternoon – shorter hill day or waterfalls walk.
- Sunday afternoon – clean the accommodation ready for handover & return to Cambridgeshire.
Cost:
- The cost for the weekend is £75, which covers accommodation and all meals from Saturday breakfast to Sunday lunch.
- A £25 deposit is required within 14 days of booking, or your booking will be cancelled.
Places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis.

Additional Information
- All activities will be run in accordance with The Scout Association’s safety and safeguarding rules. No responsibility for the personal equipment/clothing and effects can be accepted by the organisers and The Scout Association does not provide automatic insurance cover in respect of such items.
- Risk assessments will be sent to all attending, along with all other relevant information, at least a week prior to the event.
