CUSAGC: Forward 2026

18/01/2026

FORWARD is an annual incident hike run for Scouts and Guides  by CUSAGC (Cambridge University Scout and Guide Club).

Date: Saturday 14 March 2026

Location: Start and end location West Wickham Village Hall CB21 4SB

Who can take part? Scout Section members aged 10 to 14yrs at the date of the event

Cost: £20 per team. The fee includes hot drinks at the halfway base and hot snacks and drinks at the end of the day, as well as covering the other running costs of the event (i.e. hall, kit and vehicle hire). Lunch is not provided.

What does FORWARD entail?

  • It takes the form of a 10 mile hike, with five checkpoints spaced around the route where challenges allow teams to earn points. Three trophies are available to be won; one for Scout Association teams, one for GirlGuiding teams and one for chaperoned teams.
  • Teams are of 4-6 members, with the option of having an additional chaperone to help with navigation (a decision made and arranged by the team’s Guide/Scout Leader).
  • The first teams will depart at around 8:15, the last ones by 10:00. Check-in time will be specified closer to the event but is normally 15 or 30 minutes before the start time and no teams will be checked in before this time! The arrival, start and finish times for your team(s) will be confirmed closer to the event. Teams travelling from further afield (45 minutes or more) should let us know so that we can assign them a later start. Forward takes place entirely within daylight, hence the early start.
  • The event is fully risk-assessed, insured and run conforming to SSAGO rules (which are a combination of The Scout Association and Girlguiding UK’s) on safety and safeguarding. We would be happy to provide details to any interested parties. Landowners, parish councils and the police are always informed.

Cost: £20 per team. The fee includes hot drinks at the halfway base and hot snacks and drinks at the end of the day, as well as covering the other running costs of the event (i.e. hall, kit and vehicle hire). We do not provide lunch.
