External First Aid Qualifications

If you have one of the following qualifications:

• First Aid at Work (2-3 days)
• Paediatric First Aid (2 days)
• Outdoor First Aid (2 days)

you will need to complete the First Response conversion course from My Learning – this covers dental incidents, sepsis / meningitis, chest pain / heart attacks and strokes.

The First Response conversion course can be found on My Learning by using the ‘Explore Learning’ tab and search for ‘First Response conversion course‘, or by following this link:

You will need to enrol on the course and email the learning team at learning@cambridgeshirescouts.org.uk once you have completed it.

You may also need to complete a Module 10B First Aid Practical Evaluation session. If the syllabus for your course clearly states both Paediatric and Adult CPR are covered and assessed, then you will not need to do a 10B, but you will need to produce the course syllabus to prove this and email details to the learning team at learning@cambridgeshirescouts.org.uk Otherwise you will need to complete a Module 10B First Aid Practical Evaluation session.

• Activity First Aid (AFA)
• National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ)

This is a complicated area with wide variations

Ambulance Service

There are a number of qualifications across the services but the holder of any of the following should be awarded all modules;

• Emergency Care Assistant (ECA)
• Institute of Healthcare Development (IHCD) Technician
• Associate Ambulance Practitioner (AAP)
• Paramedic

You will be asked to provide evidence of your qualification (e.g. HCPC registration).

Nurse

Nursing doesn’t cover front line first aid. A discussion is required with a county First aid trainer in order to identify the elements of the syllabus that need to be covered, based on the nursing role held and work undertaken. This is especially relevant where an Advanced Nurse Practitioner role is held. Evidence of annual NHS Adult and Paediatric Basic Life Support (BLS) qualification should be provided for 10B to show recent and up to date CPR.

You will be asked to provide your current RCN registration number, and a copy of your latest BLS/ALS certificate.

Doctor

As Doctors specialise, not all areas are likely to be current and UpToDate. There is a huge difference between and A&E doctor and a Pathologist. It is likely that a professional discussion will determine what is appropriate for the individual.

You will be asked to provide your current GMC registration number, and a copy of your latest BLS/ALS certificate.

Medical Student

A medical student can’t be awarded any modules as they could be at any stage across multiple levels of training. If they have an associate award such as BLS some elements could be covered off.
