Explorer Scouts
For all 14 - 18 year olds
Explorer Scouts are young people, usually aged between 14 and 18 years old. There are many types of Explorer Scout Units, some may be linked to your local Scout Group, others may be based around different activities.
Not all Units meet each week, because you will often be out and about at weekends or in the holidays doing activities. There will be times when you will be busy doing other things such as exams, and being an Explorer Scout will have to fit around these.
As an Explorer Scout, you will get the chance to mix with other Explorer Scouts in your District, not just your Unit. By doing this, you will get the chance to take part in activities that your Unit may not organise.
For further information about Explorer Scout activities for 14 to 18 year olds in Cambridge, Ely, Huntingdon, Peterborough, St Ives and Wisbech contact Deputy County Commissioner Phil Garrett. Email: pg101@cam.ac.uk

Explorer Scout Challenge 2010
Calling all Cambridgeshire Explorer Scouts. Would you like the opportunity to win a place on an Outward Bound course worth almost £1,500?
County Commissioner Richard Hames is throwing down the challenge during 2010 in an exciting new competition for all Explorer Scouts in Cambridgeshire. The objective is to recognise some of the great things that Explorer Scouts are doing in the County and highlight the future opportunities for more adventure.
Explorer Scout teams should complete four projects between March and September, including at least one that is social in nature. At the end of each project the team completes a log which is signed off by the appropriate District Commissioner.
If you would like to enter the challenge, you need to act promptly as the deadline for entries is 31st March 2010

Wisbech Explorer Scouts Get on Board for Tall Ships Race
Explorer Scouts, Philip Taylor, James Geddis and James Nott from Wisbech are Plane Sailing with a 20th place in the latest leg of the International Tall Ships Race across the Baltic Sea from Turku, Finland to Klaipeda, Lithuania. Their boat, Offshore Scout was 20th in it's 'C' Class and also placed 39th out of 103 entrants overall. This is the best performance by Offshore Scout in any Tall Ships Race and the crew were clapped and cheered as they moored up in Lithuania.

Media training for young spokespeople
The most positive and geniune messages about Scouting always come from the young people themselves. They are infused about Scouting because they take part in the adventure it brings.
In developing the Cambridgeshire PR strategy it is vital that we can rely on at least one young spokesperson in the locality of each District to help deliver the message through radio, television and the press.
If there are any young people who you feel would make a competent spokesperson then please let me know. I will contact them individually about attending the next young spokesperson training event run by the HQ media team. The County will fund the places and we are hoping for an enthusiastic and motivated Cambridgeshire contingent.
