Harley Scouts in Littleport get letter from King Charles
A new 1st Littleport scout section for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) is celebrating three months since its launch.
It caters for children aged four to 18 with SEND, offering them the chance to take part in activities and socialise outside of school.
Harley Scouts offers a range of activities and games that are tailored to meet the children’s individual needs.
At a ceremony held on December 13, local growth officer for The Scout Association, Alex Rayner, presented letters of support and recognition The King and the Office of Catherine, Princess of Wales.
Charles, as per his letter, said: “Please convey my warmest thanks to all those who send their loyal greetings on the occasion of the official opening of the SEND Scout Troop in Littleport today.
“As your Patron, I much appreciate your message and your thoughtfulness in writing as you did and was most pleased to learn that your membership is growing so quickly.
“In return, I send my warmest good wishes for a memorable and enjoyable event and you all success for the future of the unit.”
MP for Ely and East Cambridgeshire, Charlotte Cane, and local district council Christine Whelan also attended the event and thanked the team for their contribution to the group.
Ms Cane said: “It’s great to see so many young people being included and enjoying themselves as part of the Scouting family.”
Adrianne Smith, a mother of a child who has joined the group said: “This unit has been so amazing for my Isabelle.
“She has always been included and made to feel like she belongs here and is not judged.
“Littleport is very lucky to have such a hardworking team at the heart of its community.”
