Hillwalking theory Training

Cambridgeshire Scouts Mountain Activities Team (CambsMAT) are running a hillwalking theory training session:

Date:  30 November ’24.

Venue: 1st Houghton Scout Hut, Houghton, Huntingdon PE28 2BJ

Time: 9:30am – 5:00pm.

The skills and knowledge being covered in this session are essential for aspirant permit holders and useful for others heading to the hills, including DofE participants expeditioning in wild country.

Topics include:

  • Scout Rules for hillwalking
  •  Safety in the mountains
  •  Emergency procedures
  •  Responsibilities of the leader
  •  Group management
  •  Planning
  •  Maps, compasses and navigation.

Cost: There’s no fee, just bring your packed lunch and a compass.

Watch out for details of our weekend trips in 2025 to the Brecon Beacons, the Yorkshire Dales and Snowdonia. Information will be published on the County website/Mountain Activities Team pages  and the County Facebook group

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
