Introduction to Scouts

Scouts

'Scouting has given me a fantastic opportunity to do lots of activities and things that people who are not in Scouts don’t get to do. It’s about having fun with good friends. I’ve just been selected to go the World Scout Jamboree in Sweden and that’s going to be awesome.’

Scouts are the third section of the Scouting movement. From the first experimental camp for 20 boys in 1907, the movement now has an estimated 28 million members worldwide, and in the UK alone there are over 499,000 boys and girls involved in Scouting. An increase in adult volunteers means that more and more young people are now able to take part in their own big adventure.

The Scout & Explorer Competition weekend, 11th and 12th May, saw over 160 Scouts and Explorer Scouts from across Cambridgeshire take part in team challenges, which include activities on the water, climbing, archery, air rifle shooting, high ropes and blood and gore - a first aid incident base with a Monty Python theme.

Cambridge Scouts test drive new Ferrari

Scouts in Cambridge were given the rare opportunity to look at, touch and sit in a brand new Ferrari 458 car.

Former cub, scout and venture scout Alex Goy, who is now a motoring journalist, gave seven lucky scouts from the 12th Cambridge the chance to experience the supercar.

All of the scouts were thrilled to see the car, which carries a price tag of £276,000, and were able to look at the engine, the velvet lined boot and even sit in the driver’s seat.

'Mepal24' for Cambridgeshire scouts

Mepal Outdoor Centre played host to more than 200 scouts and explorer scouts from the area in the annual Cambridgeshire scouting activities competition, Mepal24, all out in force and in contention for awards.

Teams of girls and boys (aged 10 to 18) enjoyed a busy weekend taking part in a range of competitive and exciting activities including archery, air-rifles, climbing, high ropes, cyclo cross, canoeing, sailing, ‘blood & gore’ and the ever popular raft race.
