Introduction to Cubs

Cubs

‘The best part of Scouting is definitely the camps. I love every activity we do apart from swimming. They told us the pool was 24 degrees centigrade. Minus 24 more like!’

Scouting is one of the great success stories of the last 100 years. From an experimental camp for 20 boys on Brownsea island in 1907, it has spread to 216 countries and territories, with an estimated 28 million members.

Cubs is the second section of the Scouting movement, originally started in 1916 for younger brothers who wanted a 'look-in'. In nearly a century, the section has constantly evolved and adapted its programme and methods to meet the changing needs of each generation of young people, and these days admits girls as well as boys.

CubJam2013

Planning is well under way for the next week long camp open to all Cub Scouts to enjoy at Gilwell, 25th to 31st May 2013.

The aim of Cubjam is to offer Cub Scouts from across the UK the opportunity to join together for a week of “jamboree” style fun, reminding them that they have much in common with each other – no matter their background or where they are from. Cubjam aims to give them a taste of the adventure that lies ahead in years to come. The wide range of activities offered during Cubjam help the Cub Scouts learn new skills, try new experiences and make new friends. The location also means it is a great way for parents to give their children a bit of freedom to gain their independence in a safe environment.

Cub Scouts do their best at Challenge Weekend

A record number of more than 400 Cub Scouts (girls and boys aged 9 and 10) from all over Cambridgeshire descended on the Copley Scout Campsite and Holt island Scout Centre, St Ives for the annual Cub Scout Challenge Day.

Cambridgeshire Cubs tackled canoeing, climbing wall, archery, first aid, orienteering, fire lighting & cooking and an assault course during the weekend. And for many of them it was the first time they had given these activities a go.

Cub scout bake off is big sucess

2nd March Saxon cub scouts enjoyed their fundraising day and managed to raise  £137 despite competition from a local bakery offering free tea and coffee to try and remove them as competition!

The cubs had slept over at the hall in preparation and unusually  in till at least 7am before waking!
