As we celebrate our founders birthday on the 22nd February the following message of thanks is to all our volunteers (which will also be e-mailed out on Founders Day), including the video at the end of the text. We also issued a press release to thank volunteers, showcase scouting, and hopefully inspire new members to join – which was used in local papers, like this article in the Ely Standard and this  full page article in the Cambridge News

“After the year we have all had somehow saying “thankyou” to each of you really doesn’t seem quite enough.

Unlike any other moment in our proud scouting history the pandemic has had an unprecedented effect on all we aim to achieve through the volunteering we do. At no time since our founding in 1907 has society been forced to lockdown, with the impact this has had on us all – at home, at work, in our social lives and day to day activities.

Our scouting family could have crumbled under such changes yet each of you has risen to the challenge with a resolve that is testament to our scouting ethos, and lives up to our founder’s statement that “the most worth-while thing is to try to put happiness into the lives of others”. We are changing young peoples lives at a time when they need us most, and have an opportunity to grow numbers even more as restrictions are eased in the months ahead.

Please take a look at the compilation video at the bottom of this page to see just some of the scouting that has taken place, with grateful thanks on behalf of all the young people in Cambridgeshire Scouts. Why not use today as an opportunity to take part in #ThankTwo more locally too.

It is exciting to hear of the planning taking place for returning to socially distanced face to face scouting, and especially to think longer term about being able to return to the outdoors activities and nights away that we have all no doubt missed so much.

I am proud to see the efforts made to keep scouting going, in one way or another, and look forward to working with you all as we move to brighter days ahead #togetherwecandothis

Thankyou for all that you do,

Chris Ward

County Commissioner”

Huge thanks to Owen & Harry (1st Fenstanton & Hilton) for putting the compilation together #YouthShaped – if you would like to volunteer to help with any form of such content in the future contact the communications team. Founders Day logo by South London Scout County
