Fenland District hosted its first event since Ian Bullard has taken over as DC, and has begun to create a new District Team to push the District forward.
Due to current restrictions this was an online virtual camp however that didn’t stop the District from all getting involved – with almost all the groups represented!
We began on Friday evening with Den building, putting up our tents, creating our Olympic themed flags and then we were visited by Baden Bear himself for some bedtime stories!
Saturday saw loads of activities including an Olympic themed lunch, Paper darts, sitting volleyball, a quick lesson in stoves, tea light s’mores, obstacle course and Kim’s Game. The evening was rounded off with a fantastic campfire by Adam at 15th Wisbech!
Sunday proved just as busy with Sailboats, water fireworks, javelin shooters, origami and biscuit medals. Sunday also saw one of the best challenges of the weekend, hosted by Karen (DDC People) which involved parents/families recreating iconic moments from the Olympics…!
As if this all wasn’t enough we also held an inter-Group competition each hour on Kahoot (11 in total) where participants could test their knowledge of different subjects.
We tracked Group progress on our medals table across the weekend which added a competitive aspect!
Special well done to:
- Oliver from 1st Doddington who won the Travel Challenge
- The Diffey Family from 12th Wisbech who won the Olympic moment challenge by recreating Steve Redgrave’s 5th Gold medal…
- Max from 12th Wisbech who designed the winning event badge
- And finally to 12th Wisbech who dominated the medal table!
We estimate we had over 40 families involved – one even took the activities camping in Norfolk! – with approximately 100 Young People from Fenland Scouting. A big well done to all the leaders involved and a thank you for all the hard work!
