Over a weekend in late February 30 very excited 1st Papworth Cub Scouts, and their siblings, joined together to take part in a virtual “Cubwarts” camp – making memories and learning along the way.
Their invitation to the event was included in a package sent in advance, along with their wands and a variety of things they would need over the weekend. On arrival the Cubs were sorted into their houses and gained points for their interactions over the weekend. It was a close competition between the houses, with Ravenclaw ultimately coming out on top!
The Cubs and their siblings (including some Beavers and Scouts) had lessons every hour with various tasks to complete. They started with “care of magical creatures” – a visit from The Wild Roadshow, where they learnt all about different snakes, lizards and creepy crawlies. This was followed up over the weekend with science experiments, balloon modelling, broom stick flying, photography, book reading, origami, map reading, growing cress, quizzes, marauders map drawing and lots more. Cubs even made their own butterbeer!
Everyone had a brilliant time, enjoyed two nights sleeping in their dens and tents as well as completing lots of badge work. One Cub Scout was also awarded 10 badges they had completed!
Here is just some of the feedback received, from the young people and their families:
“We just wanted to say a huge thank you for all the hard work you’ve put into this weekend’s Cubwarts camp. We’ve never done a virtual camp before and were blown away by the thought and effort put into it”
“My favourite was the balloons. THANK YOU!”
“I just wanted to say a huge thank you to you and your leaders for such a well organised, fun and informative Cub camp. We thoroughly enjoyed it and they’ve also learned a lot!”
“Thank you for the Cubwarts camp. It was really fun and I really enjoyed it because I like Harry Potter and I like Cubs. My favourite lesson was the wands with the leviosa. The potions were really fun too. Thank you for letting my sister join in. I think she likes sleeping in a den as much as me, and she loves HP as she calls him. ”
“The wingardium leviosa spell was really fun and I enjoyed it a lot. Making the potions and watching the colour changes was awesome especially when one of mine almost fizzed over!”
“Best day of my life”
