1st Doddington & 2nd Chatteris Scout Groups Receive Recognition at ‘The Pride of Fenland’ Awards!

By Sarah Bevan.

This year saw the 12th annual presentation ceremony for the Pride of Fenland Awards, held at the Wisbech St. Mary Sports and Community Centre. The 1st Doddington Scout Group and 2nd Chatteris Scout Group were both invited to attend the Pride of Fenland Awards, for two very different reasons.

One group in particular received nine nominations! The 2nd Chatteris Scout Group, whose dedicated volunteers have turned the group from struggling to survive and meet the bills to a thriving scouting community saw a record number of nominations.

Alys Turner from 1st Doddington was nominated in the single person category for single handedly taking on running all 3 sections, fund raising and inspiring new adults to support and join the group. She has done amazing things to help raise money to refurbish the Doddington Scout Hall including a parachute jump!

The 2nd Chatteris Scout Group received the most nominations of any group all evening – an amazing 9! After around 4 years of very hard work, all sections are full, the scout hall refurbishment is well and truly underway, and this is all thanks to an amazing team of people who volunteer tirelessly to support the sections.

The evening was all documented for history by the Fenland Citizen, click here for their full article and the official photographs from the evening’s festivities.
