Indoor accommodation been booked at Yr Hafod Scout Activity Centre in Snowdonia for the weekend of 27-29 September 2024.
This is a fantastic walking location, offering routes straight from the hut door that take in spectacular views and varying levels of difficulty, from easy strolls around the lake, to very challenging scrambling routes, and everything in-between.
This trip is open to all Scouts, Explorers, Scout Network and adult members of Cambridgeshire Scouts, with any level of experience in the hills, to enjoy a weekend of hillwalking under the guidance of experienced hillwalking permit holders. Please note that Scouts under 12-1/2 years old must be accompanied by one of their Leaders or a parent with Scout DBS.
Yr Hafod is also the perfect venue for training and assessment for all levels of hillwalking permit, and so we can offer training and/or assessment over the weekend. Just let us know when you fill in the application form.
Schedule:
• Friday evening – minibus pickup point and time will be notified nearer to the trip; Self-drive attendees – arrive as early as you can. Allocate walking groups for the weekend.
• Saturday – full day in the hills. Training and assessment (if requested) will cover as much navigation, leadership, and general practical subject matter as is possible.
• Saturday evening – choose routes for Sunday, then chill out.
• Sunday morning to mid-afternoon – easier hill day/climbing.
• Sunday afternoon – clean accommodation ready for handover & return to Cambridgeshire.
Cost
The cost for all participants will be £60, which covers accommodation and all meals From Saturday breakfast to Sunday lunch.
Limited transport will be arranged for Youth members and non-drivers (at extra cost to cover fuel and minibus hire).
Places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a kit list?
Yes, we will send out a kit list a couple of weeks before the trip.
Do I need cutlery and crockery?
No, all cutlery and crockery are provided at the venue.
Do I need tent and sleeping bag?
You don’t need a tent but you will need a sleeping bag and pillow.
Do I need map and compass?
Only if you are coming for permit training or assessment, in which case you will need the OS Explorer Leisure map – OL17 – Snowdon & Conwy Valley.
How much does it cost to use the minibus?
The cost for using the minibus is calculated after the trip and is the actual cost of fuel used and minibus hire divided between the number of passengers. This is usually somewhere around £20 and never more than £30.
Where does the minibus pick up?
The minibus departs from the St Ives Indoor Leisure Centre, Westwood Road, St Ives and can pick up at Stukeley Meadows, Brampton Hut services and villages along the A14.
What are the catering arrangements for the weekend?
All meals are provided from Saturday breakfast until Sunday lunch. Breakfast is cereal and cooked ‘English’, make your own packed lunch from the selection of ingredients provided, Saturday evening meal is usually a choice between pasta bolognese and chilli concarne. Vegetarian option is available.
