Cromwell District young people were certainly putting their navigation skills to the test at the weekend.

Expedition Challenge

2 Scout Patrols from 1st Hemingfords completed their 2-day hike as part of their Expedition Challenge this weekend, camping at 2 Scout Patrols from 1st Hemingfords completed their 2-day hike as part of their Expedition Challenge this weekend, camping Skreens Park Activity Centre in Essex. The smiley faces were before they set off - but we are sure they smiled with joy when they realised what they had achieved too!!!

Cub Scouts Night Hike

Not to be outdone over 80 Cub Scouts (in 12 teams) took part in a District Night Hike. This was all made possible by 40 adults, either supporting the Cubs or running the various activity bases (First Aid, Mini Pioneering, Code Breaking and Essential Fuel (refreshments!)

A special thanks went to Georgie Godby and the leaders at 1st Somersham for all their help putting the route together and lending the use of their meeting place.

And finally, a special mention to the team who took a slight detour to go golfing (!), and the brave helpers who went to 'rescue' them from Pidley!!

(Unfortunately no other suitable photos of the Night Hike, it was too dark 🤣)

Why not contact your local Scout Group, or message us, to see how you can offer ad hoc help for activities like these?

Community service in action by 12th Cambridge Scout Group and Woodsmoke Explorer Scout Unit.

Having set their alarms early, and despite the chill, 14 young people were supported by their leaders to run the the water station (and cheer the runners!) at the Cambridge Town & Gown 10k on 16th October. The race, a charity event raising money for Muscular Dystrophy UK , had around 1500 thirsty competitors.

They were helped to keep warm by a warmup workout, led by Emma, and demolished an enormous quantity of snacks from the Group Scout Leader!

Several scouting volunteers couldn't help but comment later - saying "Excellent effort from the Cambridge scouts today manning the drink station on Victoria Avenue for the Town and Gown 10k today, the enthusiasm was much appreciated after 9.5km" and "Thank you, it was very much appreciated. It was great to see you all, as I was running".

Well done all!
