Cambridgeshire contingent visit Hiroshima for Peace Programme

As part of the peace programme, the Cambridgeshire unit visited Hiroshima to represent our region in the celebrations of the peace following the devastation of the Hiroshima atomic bomb, which remembers its 70th anniversary on the 6th August this year.

In wandering around the site, the young people were struck by the beauty and peacefulness of the area, despite all that the city has been though.

Jamboree Unit touch down to UK after Life changing adventure

Two and a Half weeks after leaving the UK bound for Japan, the Participants of the Cambridgeshire Unit for the 23rd World Scout Jamboree have safely landed back at Huntingdon Race Course. It has been an experience with many ups and downs but the young people have made it their own and made it an experience of a lifetime.

Opening ceremony opens on a high

The jamboree unit watched the spectacular opening ceremony with wonder at the display of Japanese culture they saw. With Japanese drumming and JPop among some of the festivities, the unit left the site on a high from their first day on site and some of the fantastic things they have been able to do.

 Laura Fagg from Cromwell district said

We have seen and met so many people and done so many new things in the world scout centre. The atmosphere here at the opening ceremony is electric and I can't wait to get into camp life!

Evacuated to Belgium!

For the last eighteen months. the Jamboree unit have been preparing for their trip to the 23rd World Scout Jamboree in Yamaguchi, Japan this summer. They will be flying to Tokyo for three days of seeing the sites and taking part in traditional cultural activities before travelling by Bullet Train to camp amongst 30,000 Scouts from across the World at the Jamboree site. Before heading home they will be hosted by families in Akita and Aoouri in Northern Japan, experiencing the Japanese way of life first hand.

I Hope They've Got My Size!

This weekend, shortly after the 100 days until Japan countdown began, the Cambridgeshire Unit will be looking forward to starting to see the spoils of their hard work and fundraising efforts as their Jamboree Kit for their trip is distributed.

Japan in the Box

With just over 5 months to go until the Jamboree Unit from Cambridgeshire jet off to Japan for a week of culture and life changing experiences, the unit are trying to share a bit more of this culture with as many groups as possible before they go.

As if the Unit isn't already buzzing enough for their journey to Japan, the UK contingent dropped another bombshell on CambsWSJ's unit leaders this weekend at the unit leaders training weekend. They had planned to come away with lots of information, but nothing compared to this.

Scouts Celebrate Japanese culture with a “Sumo Selfie!”

This weekend, Scouts from across Cambridgeshire have descended on Peterborough City Centre to celebrate the massive culture that Japan has to offer in preparation for the World Scout Jamboree next Summer.
