OnTourWeek with the TriBe

In 2006, Simon and his assistants took a bold step by choosing to run three colonies in the north of Cambridge to keep up with demand for young people aged 6-8 years to join scouting. This unique union is referred to as 'TriBe' (The Three Beavers) and has roughly 60 members across three colonies. TriBe uses the same programme over three nights and believes in sharing resources, leaders and opportunities.

Simon looks back at his week with the 12th, 18th & 26th Cambridge Beavers.

1) SPRING TERM
2) SUMMER TERM:

CHANGES: Summer Term

Over the Easter Holidays, the TriBe leaders and I have got together to make decisions on a number of issues. Following the success of the Colony Competition during the Spring Term, it has been decided this will continue for a second term. However, the criteria has been changed. "Opening" has been replaced by "Ceremony", and will now take the register and closing ceremony into account. The second change is the "Standards" score...which measures the Beavers attitude towards activities amongst other things. "Instruction" is now part of the "Behaviour" score.

The second change is the introduction of the "Black Woggle/White Woggle" system. Beavers who are exceptionally well behaved and helpful will receive a white woggle to wear on their scarf. Beavers who are 'noticably disruptive' will receive a black woggle. These are given out at the end of the meetings...so parents can see how their child has behaved. Beavers who receive three consecutive white woggles will get a small reward, whereas three consecutive black woggles leads to a week's ban and event exclusion.
