Group Badge design winners make historyThe 1st Needingworth Scout Group this week announced the winners of a competition to design the first ever Group Badge in its entire 55 year history. The competition was open to all Beavers, Cubs and Scouts in the Group.
Group Scout Leader Del Shephard had the difficult task of choosing an overall winner from the entries received. In the end that proved too great a challenge so it was decided that there would be two winners, with their respective deigns being combined to create the final version.
The well deserving winners were Matthew Harding (Cub Scout, age 9) and Jack Culley (Cub Scout, age 9). The Cubs were presented with £10 each in Gift Vouchers as their prizes at the Group AGM, held in Needingworth this week, by Group Scout Leader Del Shephard.
The final version is a diamond shape and depicts the well at St John The Baptist Church at Holywell and the Village Lock Up. They will be worn on the uniform tops of every single person in the Group.
Juliet Francis, Executive Chairman – “I am pleased that this project has been successful in producing a badge which is unique to this village and will be worn by many, many members of the Group for a long time to come”.
Matthew Harding – “The well has been a significant part of Needingworth for well over 1,000 years.”
Jack Culley – “I thought of the village lock up because it’s the oldest and is my favorite part of the village. I was very happy and excited when I heard I had won the badge competition as I had entered other competitions before but had never won anything. I am proud to know that Beavers, Cubs and Scouts in the village will be wearing my badge design in the future. ”
