Peak Challenge 2010

Peak Challenge is an endurance hike for Scouts in Derbyshire with fourteen challenges along the way. The event is run as a competition with points awarded for achievement in map reading, orienteering and success in the challenges.Scouts arrived after dark to set up camp then up at 7am the following morning to cook breakfast and check their kit before leaving the site at 9am. There were eight check points on the Saturday with incidents such as map reading, first aid and climbing. By 4pm the Scouts were at the next campsite, preparing their evening meal and resting for the next day ahead. On Sunday there were another six checkpoints, including abseiling and survival skills.
Challenges included map reading and compass work, plotting their route across the fells over several miles, collecting points along the way by taking on team challenges such as leading a blindfolded team safely through the woods, dealing with a casualty found en route, tying knots etc.
The winning team for 2010 was 1st Fenstanton & Hilton Scout. Leader Lynne Radbone was proud of their success " Each stage over the two-day competition required skills in communication, team work, endurance and self awareness and the team's determined approach resulted in their success."
