Ely District celebrated our centenary of Scouting

This year Ely District celebrated a Centenary of Scouting and what a great year it was. We have always had pride in ourselves for being a very active district, holding many events throughout the year, but this year was to be something special.

The celebrations kicked of at St Georges day with a Birthday party and a huge balloon release (of environmentally friendly balloons of course) and ended with a thank-you evening to all the leaders and adults who currently support us and who have helped over the years. In the middle we put on a fun day in the city centre for all our members and the public to come and see what we do, have fun and share in a piece of Birthday cake which was cut by one of our youngest Beavers.

Many other events took part throughout the year including a camp to Alton Towers, Narrow Boating, Pioneering days and raft races to name but a few. We made 2 district trips to Gilwell, one for Glwell24 and one for the Reunion, subsidised by the district as a thankyou to the leaders. Our biggest event of the year though had to be the international camp to Austria, our biggest yet with 119 people from the district! (and a few neighbouring friends).

I think its safe to say that everyone in the district has had a fantastic year, and one that will be remembered for a long time to come, and just to make sure, we made this video to share with everyone and show just how fantastic it is to be a Scout!
