Beaver Scouts Promote Healthy Eating
By Chris Ward, 26th January 2008
Beavers Scouts from the Blue Jay Beaver Scout Colony, 2nd Nene Scout Group, Peterborough dropped in on BBC Radio Cambridgeshire presenter Jane Smith this weekend to tell her about the new Healthy Eating Badge which they are all working on
The Beavers made a sumptuous fruit salad in the studio for Jane and radio producer Kerry Devine, including pineapple, mango and lychees.
The Peterborough Beavers are amongst the first in the country to earn the new badge and when challenged by Jane to sample some of the more exotic fruit they all agreed that the mango and lychees tasted great.
Jane also showed the Beavers around the Radio Cambridgeshire studio in Peterborough and gave them a chance to introduce the News and Travel!
Beaver Scout Leader, Sue Charlton, one of the many dedicated adult volunteers who keep the fun happening for Beaver Scouts across Peterborough, is very proud of the youngsters. She says;
"Healthy Eating has been a real adventure for us and to appear on the radio was so exciting. All the Beaver Scouts have worked very hard to achieve the new badge and many of them are well in the way to completing their other Challenge Awards."
The picture shows the boys and girls, aged 6 to 8: Daniel Bonser, Angel Fitzsimons, Thomas Crowson, Aaron Wills, Zak Aldous and Libby Tomkins together with young leader, Andrew aged 13 and BBC presenter, Jane Smith.
