Scouts from Cambridgeshire join 5,000 from across UK in Summer Adventure
19/06/2010

Beavers and Cubs from Bluntisham Colne, Ely, Erith, Fenstanton and Wisbech joined 5,000 other young people from across the UK to have their own summer adventure.

The Scouts were attending The Scout Association’s Beaver and Cub Funday for the first time. The young people challenged themselves to take part in up to 100 activities at Gilwell Park International Campsite and Activity Centre in Chingford, North East London, the home of Scouting.

Beaver and Cub Funday takes place every year and provides the opportunity for Beaver Scouts (age 6 to 8) and Cub Scouts (aged 8 to 10) to take part in up to 100 adventurous and fun activities ranging from Abseiling to Zorbing.  Over 5,000 boys and girls aged between 6-10 along with more than 500 adult Leaders challenged themselves to have their biggest Scouting adventure yet.

Chief Scout Bear Grylls who over the years has tried out loads of adventurous activities at home and abroad said, “The Scout Movement is a world-wide force for good and at heart it says that young people have the right to an adventure. And I for one am so proud to be part of that.”

Sunday evening saw the Beavers and Cubs travel back home to Cambridgeshire. Nick Jones, volunteer Leader with the 12th Wisbech Cubs said “I feel absolutely shattered and am back to work on Monday….but the thing is that I would not have missed this weekend for the world.  Trying out all these activities with the Scouts was great. Doing this stuff really keeps me young and fit.”
