Scouts come together for County Camp
13th September 2008
250 Scouts from around the county have excelled at an adventurous activities weekend at Wood Green Animal Shelter. The two-day Scout Camp in the Shelter's adjoining fields was the first outdoor event of the new Scouting year.
The Scouts were given the opportunity to experience a range of exciting activities – including well known ones such as Archery, Canoeing, Climbing, Abseiling and Shooting. The camp also included Go Karts, Human Table Top Football and Bungee Running and by sunset, the event took on a party atmosphere with discos, karaoke and other evening entertainment.
As well as the adventure of camping and the exciting activities on offer, Scouts are keeping with the founding principles of Lord Baden-Powell, and really enjoy being outdoors. BP called for all Scouts to be “Guardians of Nature”.
County Scout Section Commissioner, Arthur Towler said “The weekend was a fantastic success. County Camp is a real challenge but it isn’t just about activities for their own sake. We encourage Scouts to try something new, feel the buzz of the achievement and then reflect on what that means."
"One of the best things about being a Scout on a camping weekend is getting to stay up late with your friends and be outside all the time without getting told to come in by your Mum!”
The scale of this camp reflects the dedicated support of the 1,000 adult volunteers who give up their time every day of the week to ensure more than 5,000 young people can pursue their love of Scouting in Cambridgeshire.
