Scouts compete for Honours at Mepal
By Simon Gates, 11th May 2008
Over 200 Scouts and Explorer Scouts have taken part in the annual County Activity Weekend at Mepal. The two-day event saw 50 teams of scouts competing against each other over several events to be crowned County Champions.
Basked in glorious sunshine for the first time in years, day one saw the first batch of scouts spending much of the afternoon setting the standards in activities such as archery, canoeing, sailing, volleyball, hi-ropes and climbing.
The evening played host to three special events, which required the Scouts and Explorers to build and race a push-kart, Sudan chair and raft in heats. The evening concluded with a giant campfire sing-song and wide-game in the dark.
Day two continued in a similar vein to the first, with the remaining teams vying to better the efforts of the previous day's competitors, and there were plenty of laughs to be had as the competition drew to a close.
County Commissioner, Richard Hames, was on hand to congratulate all scouts for their efforts and present the trophies to the winning teams. The overall winners for the Scout section was a team from Shelfords and Stapleford (Granta District), whilst the 50th Cambridge Milton Explorers (Cambridge District) took top honour in the Explorer catergory.
