Scouts cheer on Histon FC's Promotion PushHiston FC
7th April 2007

Beavers, Cubs and Scouts from across the county showed their support to Histon Football Club this weekend to celebrate two long-lasting successes. Histon Football Club, now on the brink of promotion to the Nationwide Conference, are celebrating 10 years of winning ways; working their way from the Eastern Counties football divisions right through to the Nationwide leagues.

Scouting on the other hand is celebrating its 100th Anniversary this year having grown enormously since its conception in 1907; from 20 boys on Brownsea Island to over 28 million members worldwide!

In recognition of this joint celebration, Histon FC kindly offered local scouts free entry to watch them play against league opposition side Bognor Regis Town. But for two lucky cubs, turning up landed them an opportunity to become mascots and have a pre-match kick-about with the team.

The match was dominated by Histon in the first half. With plenty of possession and quick counter attacking, they managed to carve out a 2-0 lead into the break thanks to goals from Antonio Murray and Robbie Nightingale. However, Bognor Regis came out fighting in the second half and clawed one back through a Luke Nightingale penalty. Despite a pretty open second half and both teams having decent chances to score, the match ended 2-1 giving Histon another 3 points towards their promotion push.

After the match Deputy County Commissioner, Chris Ward, commented:

"It's been a really good event. The scouts have shown great enthusiasm towards one of their local teams and they've all really enjoyed cheering Histon on. The staff and team have shown great hospitality towards the scouts and we hope to continue supporting them for many years to come."
