Scouts thanked for assisting with Show
By Simon Gates, 3rd September 2006
Around 30 Scouts and Explorers from across Cambridgeshire gathered at Wimpole Hall to assist with the production of the BBC Great British Village Show. Starting at 6:45am and working in 4 hour shifts, the scouts and explorers took on many logistical tasks such as providing security to the exhibits, managing the car parking facility, helping participants set up stalls and carry exhibits to the marquees.
As well as assisting with general duties, Scouts had an opportunity to look at some extra large vegetables and admire the miniature gardens and stalls. Those working on the later shifts even had the pleasure of meeting celebrity chef James Martin, presenter Angellica Bell and gardening guru Alan Titchmarsh.
Simon Gates, assistant organiser, praised the scouts for their efforts, "It was a long day but everyone did a fantastic job, for which we have been praised by the production crew and the organisers. It's a credit to Cambridgeshire Scouting and we are extremely grateful that these scouts and leaders have given up their time to help support the event."
Amongst the groups in attendance were the 2nd Soham Scouts, 1st Bourn Scouts, 1st Warboys Scouts as well as a few Nene and Ely Explorers. Leaders from the groups also attended.
12 Yard, the production crew behind the programme, say the National Village Show series will air during the Spring of 2007 on one of the BBC channels...so watch this space!
