Training

This strand of the Support and development team is led by two County Training Managers, each centred on one sphere of the training scheme.

Nick Hindley is the County Training Manager for Learner Delivery. This includes physical delivery of training modules, training and mentoring of the County's presenters and facilitators and generally overseeing the delivery of training across the County.

Jane Warren is the County Training Manager for the Learner Support. This includes the management of the Local Training Managers, Local Training Administrators and Training Advisors across the County.

Practical Skills

There is a practical skills training module being run for all of those who either need their module 18 or just want to brush up on their practical scouting skills. The course is being run by the County training team on May 11th 2013 at Paston HQ in Peterborough.

The course will be based around enabling adults to gain and develop practical scouting skills that they will be able to pass on to their young people in their sections.

Training Costs

As from the 1st January 2013 all adult modular training in Cambridgeshire will be free of charge to leaders at the point of delivery. This will also include 16hr First Aid Training.  There will however be charges made to the group should the delegate not attend the course, without a valid reason, and for anybody else who is not a member of Cambridgeshire County Scouts. We will advise Learners that they should liaise with their GSL's before cancelling a course or not turning up.

Training Resources

There are currently 38 modules in the Scout Association's adult training program of which it is usual that most leaders only require to undertake modules 1 to 19, dependant on the role. See the training module matrix below.

The modules vary in content and the requirement to undertake these modules will be discussed between yourself and your training advisor whilst considering your life skills and experiences. See the link below for the overview content of each module.

The training requirements of an appointment have certain time scales attributed to them and these are as follows:

Modules 5 – 19 are to be completed within 3 years of your appointment.

The downloadable module matrix below contains further information on the modules, along with their aims, topics and methods for learning. This free resource is also available from the information centre.

Module 10: First Aid

Adults in Scouting must hold a current first aid qualification at the time of gaining their wood badge and at appointment renewal, and they are encouraged to keep their qualification up to date, renewal every 3 years.

The minimum standard for this qualification is First Response, but higher levels of expertise are needed if the adult wishes to give first aid training or lead certain kinds of adventurous activities.
