Cambridgeshire Scouts Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme

What is the Award?

A voluntary, non competitive programme of activities, designed to offer a personal and individual challenge. To many it's not so much the badge and certificate but the buzz of knowing they did something that maybe they might never have expected to!

Who can participate?

The Award is open to all members of The Scout Association from their 14th to 25th birthdays (Scouts, Venture Scouts, Helpers, Instructors, Leaders and Scout Fellowship).

What do they have to do?

To qualify for an award at Bronze or Silver level, the activities are undertaken in four areas - Service, Skills, Physical Recreation and Expedition/Exploration - with a fifth section, Residential, at Gold Level. With over 400 topics in the Skills and more than 250 in the Physical sections the award caters for all, from the very athletic to the not so active, from the academic to the practically minded. "You don't have to climb mountains (but you can!)".

How does the award fit in?

The Awards can be undertaken in conjunction with Scouting awards or any other organisation that the Scouts might belong to. The Scheme forms a useful complement to the movement's training programmes and is recognised by industry and commerce as it demonstrates the individual's achievement and endeavour.

How do I find out more?

A Fact Sheet with further details on the Award in general, including a list of promotional materials and information videos, is available from me along with the participant's entry packs. You can also find information on the Awards website at www.theaward.org and on Scoutbase UK.

Your challenge?

How can you say the Award is not for your 'Scouts' if they have not heard an opportunity to discover it?
