HSBC Funding
Every year, HSBC supports a wide range of projects and initiatives throughout the communities where we do business. Their aim is to help raise the academic achievement of young people and improve their vocational skills with formal and informal learning. This commitment to the development of young people across the UK is both long-standing and ongoing. In particular, they believe that supporting primary and secondary education, especially for the disadvantaged, is essential for the well-being and prosperity of us all. There are a range of programmes that they currently support.

Funding for Capital Building Projects from the Landfill Tax Scheme
The Land Fill Tax Scheme operated by the Government ensures that revenues raised from Landfill Tax is made available as grants to assist community groups such as Scouting.
There are two main criteria that need to be addressed by potential applicants:
The site of the proposed facility (such as a new community building or play facility) must be within a ten mile radius of a landfill site
In Cambridgeshire the main landfill sites are managed by WREN and there are four sites locally. These are at Butt Lane Milton, Brampton Road Buckden, Hundred Road March and Welland Road Peterborough, effectively covering all of Cambridgeshire.
The facilities will genuinely be open to all sections of the community to use
The test as laid down in WREN’s documents states that applications from Scout Groups for money to develop their own exclusive usage buildings will not be agreed to. However, many Scout Groups that operate from their own premises actively encourage wider use by the community.
The good news is that for planned developments that pass the two tests of location and wider community usage qualify for grants of up to £50,000.If you are considering seeking funds to assist with a future development project and would like to understand more about the scheme then contact Malcolm Robinson, County Scout Finance Hub Chairman. Malcolm has copy documentation from WREN together with examples of how other community groups within Cambridgeshire have made good use of the scheme. These include venues in Cambourne, Ely, Mepal, Oakington, Wisbech St Mary and Yarwell (Nene Valley Railway).
