Nene District Scouts held its Annual Incident event in Ferry Meadows Country Park, Peterborough and this was the 24th year the event has run. 99 Scouts (70% of census figure) enjoyed the event, which ran from 6:30 to after midnight. This year the theme of the event was 'Lord of the Rings' with the first base being a mobile blacksmith making real rings to be taken safely round the bases.

Supported by some 50 adults (leaders and parents) and Explorer Scouts, the 21 teams of Scouts took an average two hours to complete the course, meeting all sorts of characters from the trilogy along the way. Some of the costumes designed by the Explorers were particularly effective in the moonlight.

The planned course had had to be altered during the preceding week as the River Nene was in flood putting parts of the flood meadows under water.

This year the adults reported that global warming had made it the warmest yet, long term leaders remembering the early years when it regularly snowed during the event.

Pete Lumley (ADC Scouts) commented that this is our best attended District event after St.George's Day and is enjoyed by adults and youth alike. Parents who get involved often go on to take greater roles on Group Executives or as Leaders and Section Assistants.

Peterborough Gang Show 2008

In November at the Key Theatre in Peterborough Scouts from Medehamstede and Nene Districts will celebrate by performing in their 61st Gang Show.

Rehearsals will soon be underway under the direction of Gillian Mason (ADC Activities Nene) and the predominately young cast will be busy learning their lines and routines.

A few statistics below will give you a clue to the challenges ahead for her and her team.

Plus: Many more hours spent by the support team in promoting the show and selling nearly 2,500 tickets.

Also: Managing the funds and health and safety issues for all those involved.

Advanced booking forms for Tickets will be advertised in the very near future. (So watch out for details).
