Scout Groups in Ely District
Ely District covers the City of Ely, with its magnificent Cathedral, and surrounding Fenland towns and villages. There are 7 different Scout groups and two vibrant and successful District Explorer Scout Units within the District.
Over 370 youth members meet weekly supported by an enthusiastic team of leaders who provide a wide range of activities for both boys & girls aged 6 years upwards to ensure Scouting is both challenging and fun for the young people and adults alike. All our Scout Groups have Beavers, Cubs & Scouts.
The Explorer Units provide a varied and challenging range of activities for the 14 to 18 age range, with options including the chance to become Young Leaders and/or participate in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award scheme or take part in International expeditions. Explorer contact is Louise Smith: desc@elydistrictscouts.org.uk

Many leaders have additional qualifications, which together with County Activity advisers, allow us to offer extra activities such as archery, abseiling, kayaking, hill walking, International events, Duke of Edinburgh's Award and many more adventurous pursuits.
Denmark 2008: Ely is twinned with Ribe, in Denmark, and has regular contact with Ribe-Hviding Scout Group. Check our weblog for details of our July 2008 visit to Denmark: districts/ely/denmarknews.html
Germany summer 2010: 68 of the District's Scouts, Explorers Scouts & Leaders enjoyed a fun but exhausting 10 day expedition to the Rhineland (Koblenz area) where they met Scouts from Holland, Denmark and Italy. More details at: districts/ely/germany.html
February 2012: More leaders needed to meet demand for Scouting adventure across Ely & District
The demand for Scouting continues to grow amongst both boys & girls due to the popularity of local Scouting, the challenging programmes and opportunities on offer, and the rapid expansion of new housing across the District. Our membership numbers have increased 55% since January 2007, and by 15% over the past 12 months.
1st Ely Scout Group - is Full
The Friday Scout Troop, and
The Thursday Beaver colony.
Based in the Kings Avenue/High Barns area of the City, 2nd Ely Group needs to strengthen its enthusiastic & fun leader team. Uniformed leaders are particularly needed for the following roles:
- The Wednesday Scout Troop.
- The Thursday Cub Pack
Fancy the chance to take part in a wide range of outdoor activities (from camping to kayaking, climbing to pioneering and many more), test your creative skills and improve your C.V. Then we have a variety of opportunities that could suit you.
Why not give us a call to find out more and join the Scouting adventure (it's fun for adults as well as youngsters).
Had great time when you were in Scouting? Want to give something back as a leader, manager, administrator or skills instructor to your local Scout Group & have some fun in the process, then telephone Tel: 0845 643 6250 (local rate) evenings/weekends or email: dc@elydistrictscouts.org.uk.
Being a volunteer Leader within Scouting, is a great way to enhance your (work) C.V. Whilst training up you can, as an optional extra, you can also gain an external (O.C.N.) accredited qualification in either "The Managing or Provision of Youth Work"
Ely District Scout Active Support Unit
The Unit is inviting adults (18 +) who are not already members of Scouting, to get in touch and to help increase the fun and adventure on offer to youngsters (and adults) in Scouting. SASU provides a way of flexibly volunteering some time to support Scouting to suit you. This may just be helping with one or two major events a year, to take the pressure off the leaders who run weekly meetings for Beavers, Cubs, Scouts & Explorer Scouts, helping behind the scenes or offering a new skill to Scouting. Do get in touch for more information.
