Cromwell District Pack Holiday 11th - 13th April 2008
![]() |
On Friday 11th April 36 Cubs and 8 leaders from Cromwell District boarded the coach and headed north for a weekend of adventure at the PGL activity centre at Caythorpe in Lincolnshire, arriving in time for an evening meal and some outdoor games before settling into their en-suite rooms for the night. Next morning the fun started in earnest and the next two days were spent enjoying activities that can't normally be offered using the resources available in the District.
Splitting into mixed groups, the Cubs and Leaders from 1st Fenstanton & Hilton, 1st Hemingford, 1st Warboys and 1st Somersham Packs found themselves faced with challenges such as Quad Biking, Air Rifle Shooting, High Ropes (12m above the ground!), the Vertical Challenge, the Big Swing (10m above the ground!!), Zip Wire and Fencing. Everyone was given the opportunity to have a go at every activity and the way that Cubs from different packs helped and encouraged each other demonstrated the spirit of Scouting in a fantastic way.
Feedback from the Cubs (and their parents) since they returned home has been excellent with comments such as “Favourite activity was zip wire because he was allowed to do a dive off the platform and High ropes was also great fun”; “My best activity was the high ropes because it made you work hard and you had to be brave” and ”giant swing because when they took you to the top and you pulled the cord and let go it felt like you were going to crash but you just swung right back up. It was scary but brilliant”. When asked if they would like to again the response was “would love to go again”; “I would definitely go again”; “Yes, just ordered the PGL book”; “yes yes yes”.
If you would like to see more photographs and even a couple

Cromwell District and each application to join is vetted.
If you would like to run a similar Pack Holiday for your own
