CubJam2009CubJam 2009 - 23rd May - 29 May

Cubtastic!!!

·        12 excited Cub Scouts (11 boys and 1 girl aged 8 to 10) from the 1st Doddington and 1st Fenstanton & Hilton Cub Packs have just returned from the most amazing week of their lives – tired, dirty and very, very happy!

·        Never before had Cubs from either Pack spent longer than a few nights on any Cub Camp

·        They joined with 1000 other Cub Scouts from as far afield as Guernsey, Yorkshire and Wales to share a week of jamboree style fun, and take part in a wide range of activities, both on and off site – with not a television or Nintendo in sight!

·        The event provided a great taster to show them what lies ahead as they continue their scouting journey through into adulthood.

·        CubJam 2009 took place at Gilwell Park (near Chingford Essex) throughout May Half Term.

·        Cubs learned that through scouting they have so much in common with each other—no matter their background or where they are from.

·        They took part in a wide range of activities - from modern (such as circus skills or taking to the stage in “Cubjam's Got Talent) to traditional scouting (from archery to climbing)

·        Modern technology has never been used in such a way by CubJam before – with a live website allowing parents back home to see photos, read the latest news updates, tune in to CubJam FM, make requests and send in blog messages

·        A special song for CubJam 2009 was written by Peterborough youth band “2nd Drove”

·        Events such as this can help inspire adults to volunteer, helping recruit adults needed so that the 700 boys and girls currently on waiting lists across Cambridgeshire can start to benefit from all that scouting can offer. The message to potential volunteers is simple - "Whether you can spare an hour a year or two hours every week there is bound to be an opportunity in a Scout Group near you. It's all about what you can do, not what you can't!". Visit to find out how you can help.
