Beaveree 2009
Some 800 Beavers (boys and girls aged six to eight) attended this years Beaveree on 7th June at Cottenham Village College. They came from 65 different colonies from all 10 Scout Districts within Cambridgeshire. With 150 leaders and almost 70 parent helpers plus those volunteers that ran the bases, providing refreshments, supervising the car park etc, we had well over 1,000 attending.
Beavers visited four different activity zones. Safety Zone with activities covering; stranger danger, water safety, road safety and home safety. Science Zone with a Wizz Bang Science show followed by 20 minutes of hands on science activities. Scout Craft Zone: which included backwoods cooking and other outdoor activities and a Street Dance Zone which will also contain a graffiti wall.
A special Badge has been produced for the Beavereee which event organiser and Deputy County Commissioner, Sue Best was very excited about.
"This years badge has been designed by Thomas Holliday, a Beaver Scout from the 1st Willingham. We announced him as the winner of the competition and presented Thomas with a prize at the opening ceremony"
"We also had a Happy Colony competition which ran throughout the day. 'Smile Spotters' were looking for the happiest Colony and the winners, Newmarket Beavers, were presented with three Smiley Face Space Hoppers at the closing ceremony."
